The candidate will work for Network News Service (NNS), an ABC, CBS, FOX News Cooperative with 556 member stations, based at the CBS NY Broadcast Center. NNS provides LIVE Breaking news (7,000 LIVE feeds in 2018) to all three Networks. This candidate will work alongside colleagues from ABC and FOX in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

While this is a CBS position, the candidate will provide content to the three-network Cooperative.

Applicants should have an interest in affiliate newsgathering, both editorial and operational.

Must be able to work independently nights, weekends, and overnights, as required, reacting effectively to live breaking news, responding to network partner needs, editing video and writing story abstracts for affiliates.

The successful candidate will understand how to use social media to discover and track stories, be well informed about major national stories and newsmakers, and possess the news judgment to prioritize assignments. She or he must know the digital "tools of the trade", including non-linear editing and file-based video transfer. Strong news writing and good customer service skills are a must. Knowledge of IP transmission (like LiveU and TVU) is helpful. Assignment Desk experience is a plus.



  • Work with partner networks and their affiliates to plan and coordinate live and breaking news coverage.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with partners’ national and regional desks

  • Edit non-linear video

  • Prepare daily news coverage plans for partners

  • Supervise newsroom operations as required

  • Assist with NNS news futures planning

  • Maintain partner news standards and practices

  • Support the strategic goals and mission of NNS

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree with minimum two years related experience preferred.

  • Non-linear editing skills are a must.

  • Good editorial judgment as well as strong logistical skills.

  • Experience in broadcast or affiliate news services a plus.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize are a necessity as well as being detail oriented and able to react quickly and decisively under deadline pressure.

  • Requires working flexible hours, likely including nights, weekends, and/or overnights.
