The CBS News Political Unit is looking for a producer for a 12-13 month assignment to help cut and produce content gathered by the 2020 CBS News Campaign Reporters and the rest of the Political Unit. The job will be based in Washington, D.C. and will require some weekend and evening commitments. Utilizing sound editorial/news judgement and working with various members of the team, he/she will help gather video fed in from the field and edit requested video in to a complete product for CBS News platforms, mainly CBSNews.com, and the network’s streaming channel, CBSN. He/she will be able to complete multiple edits on a daily basis, cutting everything from candidate and voter interviews to packages, and pushing the material out for use on the network’s digital and social media websites. The assignment will end on November 6, 2020, after Election Day in 2020.
The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of journalism experience editing news and the ability to work in a highly deadline-driven environment. He/she will have strong communication skills, superior organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to prioritize both short-term and long-term projects, juggle multiple priorities, build strong professional relationships and work calmly under pressure.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Responsibilities:
Work closely with DC-based coordinating producer, and the rest of the political unit on executing daily assignments
Keep track and oversee the organization of short term and long term video projects
Communicate with teams in the field on requesting elements that are needed
Work with DC ingest to feed/FTP finished content to intended destination
Help to cut original and breaking news content from the Political Unit that can be quickly posted to social media and digital platforms
Qualifications:
Experience working in a deadline driven, news environment
3-4 years of linear editing experience
Superior organizational skills
Highly developed relationship-building skills
Strong editorial/news judgement with ability to prioritize and work calmly under pressure
Strong communication and editing skills (Avid preferred)
Ability to work a Sunday - Thursday schedule, with some evenings on short notice as news dictates
Broadcast, Print or Digital experience covering politics, White House, or Congress preferred
College degree in broadcast journalism, history, or political science strongly preferred
